Welcome to the Big Timber, Montana Picture Tour
Because of Big Timber, Montana location, any direction you ride from town from is the right direction for incredible Montana scenery. Ride north to hike the Crazy Mountains (elevation 11,214 feet). Ride west to the magnificent Absaroka Range consisting of 47 mountain peaks over 12,000 feet. At the foot of the mountains lays Livingston, Montana gateway to Yellowstone National Park. Ride east for a taste of the Great Plains and visit the Greycliff Prairie Dog Town State Park. Ride south to fish one of the most beautiful fly fishing rivers in Montana the Boulder River. The river gets its name from the consistent riffles tumbling aggressively over boulders followed by a short deep aquarium like pool – – then repeat. Is it any wonder both “A River Runs Through It” and “The Horse Whisperer” were filmed in Big Timber.
Springdale Montana to the West
We have included pictures of the picturesque Springdale schoolhouse located 15 miles west of Big Timber. The schoolhouse is all that remains of the community that was once a railroad station and stop over for travelers on their way to the local hot springs. If you are pressed for time, ride slowly along the Interstate 90 Frontage Road from Big Timber to Springdale. Montana. If time permits continue west on the gravel Convict Grade Road to Livingston, Montana. For your convenience, we added panoramas of what you can see during a typical September drive.
See the Yellowstone River Fishing Access Sites
When we first floated the Yellowstone from Emigrant to Columbus, Montana, we didn’t know what we would find for camping sites along the river. We are including panoramas of the Yellowstone River Fishing Access Sites near Big Timber in the hope it will be useful information for Yellowstone Floaters in the future.
Thanks for the pics of the old Galusha Building. We were sorry to see the landmark go.
