You work up a hunger after all that hiking in the park. The East side has lots of options near Babb, Montana. There is Johnson’s Cafe in St. Mary. Two Sisters Cafe south of Babb and the Cattle Baron Supper Club north of town. If you just want refreshment you can’t beat the Thronson’s General Store and Motel. While you are munching, here is a little history. Babb, Montana was established in 1905. The town was needed to accommodate the hundreds of St. Mary River basin irrigation project workers flooding into the area. The post office was named after chief project engineer Cyrus C. Babb. A year later, frontier merchant J.H. Sherburne opened a trading post. You will run across the name as you ride toward Many Glacier.
