As you ride north up Highway 93 from Missoula keep an eye out for the Somers, Montana Historical Marker.  That is your notice to slow down and get ready to turn east to see the town of Somers, Montana.

Located at the head of Flathead Lake this former Lumber town is always a treat to visit.  The Great Northern Railroad built a spur line from Kalispell to the sawmill in Somers, Montana in 1900.  At one point, the Somers Lumber Company owned the townsite, 122 houses, a company store, the water and electric utilities and the O’Brian mansion. In 1948, the Great Northern sold the sawmill and townsite to a Seattle salvage dealer.
